My kids are 9 and 12 and both picked up the dice rules in one round, no coaching needed. Hatching the dragon cards is the part everyone fights over, and it plays fine with 5 of us at the table.
Bought this for a rainy afternoon with my nieces and we ended up playing four rounds straight. The dice-rolling keeps turns quick, and collecting the dragon cards gives it just enough strategy that the adults stayed interested too. Works great with five players without dragging.
